Understanding Your Storage Usage

Your ShopStable plan includes a storage allowance for the images you upload — logos, website content, product photos, and anything else you add through the media library. This article explains how we measure that storage, where you can see it, and what to do as you approach your limit.

Where to see your current usage

Open your dashboard and look at the Media storage card on your home page. It shows:

  • How much you've used (e.g. 2.4 MB of 100 MB used)
  • A progress bar that fills up as you approach your limit (turns amber over 80%, red at 100%)
  • A breakdown by category — how much is going to your website blocks, logos, social previews, and so on

This number updates within a few minutes of every upload or deletion.

What counts toward your limit

We count the bytes that physically live on our servers on your behalf. For every image you upload, that's two things:

  1. The display copy — the resized, optimized version that gets shown on your site
  2. The original — kept privately so you can re-crop, change the focal point, or restore an earlier version without re-uploading

The category breakdown rolls both of these together into a single number per category.

What doesn't count: any image variants we generate on the fly (different sizes for different devices). Those live on our content delivery network's cache, not in your storage allowance.

How to free up space

The fastest way to free up storage is to delete images you no longer use:

  1. Open the image picker on any block, or visit My Media in the dashboard
  2. Hover an image — a trash icon appears in the top-right corner
  3. Click it to move the image to the trash. Your storage drops immediately.
  4. A toast appears with an Undo button — click within 8 seconds to restore. After that, items in the trash are kept for 30 days and then permanently removed by an automated cleanup.

If you delete an image that's still referenced by a published block on your site, the block falls back to its placeholder appearance. We recommend swapping the image in the block first, then deleting the old one.

What happens when you upload a duplicate

If you upload an image we already have on file for your business — same exact bytes, same collection — we skip the second upload entirely and reuse the existing copy. You won't see a separate entry in My Media and the upload won't count toward your storage again. This is automatic; you don't need to do anything.

The exception is an image that was previously flagged by moderation. Re-uploading content that was previously rejected gives it a fresh moderation pass, so it shows up as a new image in your library.

Upgrading your plan

If you keep bumping into your limit, the cleanest fix is to move to a plan with a larger allowance. See What happens when I hit my storage limit for what to do when you're at the cap and want to keep uploading.
